Description

Major Charles Brian O'Brien enlisted in the Citizen Military Forces January 1941. He served in Brisbane and was a sergeant and the senior provost on duty for the night of the Battle of Brisbane. He was promoted to lieutenant for his action that night. In April 1943, O'Brien enlisted in the Second Australian Imperial Force. He served in New Guinea from 1943 to 1944, in Labuan in 1945, then in Morotai where he was head of the Morotai POW camp for Japanese soldiers and was involved in their repatriation to Japan. Following this O'Brien joined the British Commonwealth Occupying force (BCOF) in Japan until 1951 when he returned to Australia and was discharged from the army.
