Baldwin, Rupert Thomas James (Sergeant; b.1887 - d.1958)
Description
Diaries with detailed entries describing sea voyage, training in Egypt and active service on Western Front. Comments vividly on fighting in numerous battles, the mud and freezing conditions during the winter of 1916-1917, plight of wounded, gas attacks. Baldwin had a larrikin attitude to army life which saw him AWL at every opportunity, always returning to his battalion prior to action.
