Papers of Gunner Bert Atkins of 3rd Training Battalion, 10th Reinforcements, 12th Bn; 45th Battery, 12th Brigade; and No 1 Battery, RBAA; and Private Ern Atkins of 5th Battalion. Letters and postcards mostly from Bert to Mother and family, and Bert's diary, describe sight seeing and duties in Egypt, France, Belgium, England and Scotland. Mentions swimming in Suez Canal, 1st experience of bombardments in Armentieres, gas alarms, Fleurbaix, Ypres, the Somme, `Strafing Fritz', visiting brother, conscription referendum, and the armistice. Includes postcards and diaries of Ernest from 1926 describing return pilgrimage to Europe. Mentions touring England, Scotland, France, Belgium, Switzerland and Italy.
