Description
Collection relating to the First World War service of 386 Private Leslie David Wright, a stretcher bearer with 3 Battalion. Collection consists of an original diary covering 1914-18 with entries describing stretcher bearing duties, being wounded at Gallipoli and service in France. He describes the landing at Gallipoli on 25 April and being wounded two days later and being carried back to the beach by Simpson and his"famous donkey Murphy". Also included in the collection is a Christmas card for 1916, a ration book, a notice from Lt Gen Birdwood regarding the referendum, and photocopies of attestation papers and statements of service.
