Collection relating to the service of Captain Sydney James Campbell, AAMC, Australia, at sea, Egypt, Gallipoli, 1915. Collection consists of a studio portrait of Captain Campbell and two negatives; seven snapshots depicting Australian soldiers loading horses onto a ship; twelve annotated sketches by Captain Campbell depicting various landmarks near Anzac Cove; five letters written by Captain Campbell to various members of his family; numerous letters of condolence received by Campbell's family following his death in July 1915; two diaries and assorted diary notes made in 1915; a copy of 'The Dardanelles Driveller' (Dardanelles : no.1, 17 May 1915); a copy of 'Peninsula Press' (Gallipoli : no. 18, 30 May 1915); one Egyptian postcard.

Biographical note: Captain Sydney James Campbell, 8th Light Horse Regt. Died of wounds at sea, 14 July 1915. Other biographical details: educated at Geelong CE Grammar School, 1905; Ormond College, University of Melbourne 1905 - 1910, Victoria M.B. B.S. Single; medical practitioner of 'Maritimo', Portland, Victoria. Son of Hugh John Munro Campbell, M.L.A., of 'Maritimo', Portland, Victoria.
