MacLeod, George (Private, 47th Bn, AIF b.1888 - d.1917)
Description
Original diary and address book of Private George MacLeod (a.k.a McLeod), No. 2008 of 47th Infantry Battalion, AIF. Address book contains few entries. Diary covers period 5 August 1916 to 14 April 1917 and mainly descibes daily routine and local conditions including the movement from Egypt to France and service on the Western Front. Both books are badly damaged from shrapnel or shell fragments that supposedly killed MacLeod on 8 June 1917 at Messines.
