File of papers relating to the First World War service of Brigadier General John Monash, 4th Infantry Brigade. This file, originally part of Book 12, covers 2 May 1916 to 31 May 1916 and includes recommendations for the promotions of Captain Locke and Captain Hansen, a list of promotions, appointments and awards for the AIF, draft of a congratulatory speech given by Monash to the 4th Brigade during parade, a letter to 'Victor' regarding his will and 'new war office practices', another letter to Major General Herbert Vaughan Cox regarding the conduct of soldiers during brigade exercises, a document on codes and identifying coded messages, and several documents relating to the Brigade's preparations for joining the forces on the Western Front.
