French souvenir handkerchief : Mrs Marion McLeod
Description
Cream silk chiffon handkerchief with a pale blue edge in machine buttonhole stitch. Hand embroidered in the top left corner in mauve, purple, red, blue, white, green, yellow and black satin stitch with a pansy and Allied flags. Beneath them, in brown satin stitch is 'SOUVENIR DE FRANCE'.
History / Summary
Sent home to his wife, Marion McLeod, in 1916, by 4825 Private Stewart Jamieson McLeod. He enlisted on 16 September 1915 and served with 53 Battalion AIF. McLeod was killed in action at Fleurbaix on 26 August 1916.
