Kabelwerfer 49/780 (Spigot Mortar)
Description
Spigot mortar made from steel tubing and pressed metal and attached to a rectangular wooden base. The mortar has an elevation scale on the left side and a locking lever on the base of the barrel to lock in the elevation of the barrel. The mortar is painted matt grey. Markings - SIEMENS SCHUCKERT. 189; KW 49/780.
History / Summary
Spigot mortar issued to German infantry mortar regiments in the later period of the First World War. The mortar was lightened and simplified through the evolution of previous spigot mortars. It was designed to be rapidly relocated in trench warfare conditions.
