Description

Black wool forage cap (for mess dress) with white piping and silver Russia braid around crown and lower edge, and two plain silver ball buttons. Lined with black cotton.

History / Summary

Worn by James Black-Stevenson who was born in London, and educated in Scotland. He worked in India for Assam Tea Company c 1876-1890. Also served there with 'Mounted Rifles', Indian Army. Married Caroline Blakspeare in 1883. Migrated to South Australia in 1890 for sake of wife's health. Served c 1900-1902 with South Australian Scottish Company and Adelaide Rifles. Died in 1934.
