Memorial Box Program Covid Safe Plan

Memorial Box loans will be available from Term 2 2021; however changes have been made to ensure the safety of all who come into contact with the boxes and their contents.

This document should be read along with the Risk Assessment for Memorial Box Loans, which outlines safe use and manual handling processes.

Controls implemented

Memorial Box agents

  • Boxes and contents with hard surfaces will be sanitised with alcohol based disinfectant wipes in between loans. Disposable gloves will be worn during cleaning.
  • Following cleaning, boxes will be quarantined for a two week period before they are loaned out again.
  • Memorial Box agents should not handle boxes or their contents should they present with symptoms of COVID-19 or come into contact with persons diagnosed with COVID-19. State agents to advise the Memorial if a box is located in an identified hotspot.

Borrowers

Receiving your box:

  • Your contact details will be stored for COVID-19 contact tracing purposes. If you are picking up a box directly from an agent location, please advise the agent in advance if the person entering the location is not the contact on the booking request.
  • If picking up or returning a box to an agent location, please sanitise your hands and maintain 1.5 metres social distancing from employees.
  • If your box is being delivered via a shipping company, please maintain social distancing from delivery drivers where possible and sanitise your hands upon receipt of the box. Many shipping companies no longer require physical signatures in order to limit contact with the general public.

During your loan period:

  • Ensure no participants handle boxes or their contents should they present with symptoms of COVID-19 or come into contact with persons diagnosed with COVID-19.
  • Set-up the box in a well ventilated space that allows for 1.5 metres social distancing between participants.
  • Teaching staff only to handle objects, and to wear disposable gloves when handling box items. It is recommended that teachers sanitise hands before and after touching the boxes and their contents.
  • Uniform items are not to be tried on or worn by borrowers.

In the event of an outbreak and/ or lockdown due to COVID-19 in your local area

  • Agents will monitor COVID-19 hotspots and provide information to borrowers should their upcoming booking or current loan be affected.
  • Borrowers to inform their agent should a participant that has handled a box prior to its return or shortly after, present with COVID-19 symptoms.
  • For loans in a hotspot or lockdown area, we ask that boxes and contents are returned to agents when the risk of COVID-19 transmission has passed (i.e. the area is no longer a hotspot according to the state Government health authority and lockdown is lifted).

Memorial Box loans remain suspended for groups in high risk categories for COVID-19 infection, such as aged-care facilities. In lieu of Memorial Box loans, such groups are encouraged to explore the Memorial’s online learning resources.
