THE RAAF IN ART

Second World War

Second World War

Second World War artworks represent the largest collection by conflict at the Memorial: almost 70 per cent of the Memorial’s poster collection dates from 1939–1946; Official War Artists were commissioned from the early stages of the war; and RAAF members completed amateur works.

Artworks relating to the RAAF in the Second World War are here presented in the following themes: aircraft; scenes of everyday life; Stella Bowen’s aircrew paintings; posters; and the Women’s Auxiliary Australian Air Force, which celebrates its 80th anniversary in March 2021.
