Berg, Wilbert Nugent (Sergeant, b.1896 - d.1919)
Description
Collection relating to 1132 Sergeant Wilbert Nugent Berg, who served initially with the 18th Battalion AIF before transferring to the 61st Battatalion AIF. Comprises two small diaries kept by Sgt Berg during 1915 to 1916, and 65 original letters handwritten by Sgt Berg to his parents and sister in Australia, during 1915-1916. The letters cover the period of his troopship voyage to Egypt, training, service on and evacuation from Gallipoli, his service in France, and his hospitalization in England and repatriation to Australia. Also includes one official letter advising Sgt Berg's family of him being wounded.
