Galleghan, Sir Frederick Gallagher 'Black Jack' (Brigadier, b.1897 - d.1971)
Collection relating to the Second World War service of Brigadier Sir Frederick Gallagher 'Black Jack' Galleghan DSO, OBE, ED, 8th Australian Division and prisoner of war, Changi. Collection consists of a personal record book (diary) spanning the period 8 December 1941 to 14 January 1942 and covering the area between Khoto Baru and Tampin. Also included is a folder containing a Report on the Treatment of Prisoners of War, dated 5 September 1945; documents from 1942 relating to the escape of Cpl R E Breavington and Pte Victor Gale and their subsequent capture and execution; statements re Breavington and Gale and other involved; and a summary of events and activities in the Changi POW camp. An additional folder from his time with the Australian Military Mission containing permits, passes etc issued to Brig Galleghan is also included.
