Early study for Hall of Memory, West window. Details of the figures in this study bear variations to those installed for the stained glass windows in the Hall of Memory. For instance, the figures' bodies in the study seem to taper into stone plinths, only a shadow of their feet decipherable. Whereas the final design depicts each of them clearly standing atop of a stone plinth. The Lewis gun is not depicted in the study for Comradeship; the study for Tradition features a sailor holding ammunition, while in the window the figure is a gun loader. The infantryman for Patriotism is more accurately depicted in the window; the airman for Chivalry is depicted without his flying helmet and respirator in the study. Similarly, the artilleryman featured for Loyalty is a more accurate representation of the uniform and equipment for the First World War. The same fighting qualities are represented in each panel: Coolness; Control; Audacity; Endurance, and; Decision.
