Footballers - be in the last quarter with the Sportsmen's 1000
Description
Australian First World War recruitment poster for the Sportsmen's 1000 issued by the State Parliamentary Recruiting Committee in 1917. One of a series of long rectangular posters which target specific types of sportsmen and use sporting terms particular to their sport to attract recruits. This poster targets footballers urging then to ' ...be in the last quarter with the Sportsmen's 1000'. Other sports featured were tennis; golf; and rowing. Text only the posters are printed in blue and red ink, and framed within a blue border. Sport was a common theme in many First World War recruitment posters, as it called upon notions of sportsmanship and fair play to appeal to the volunteers.
