Nautical Odometer Water Vane
Description
Nautical odometer water vane used to determine distance travelled by a ship. The water vane is characterised by four off-set fins which rotated while trailing behind a ship. As the water vane rotates a rope attached to it rotates a mechanical device which imputs telemetry into the nautical odometer. The vane is made from metal and is coloured light green.
History / Summary
This nautical odometer water vane was captured by the Royal Australian Navy Clearance Diver Team during the 2003 Iraq War. It was was captured by a boarding party from HMAS Kanimbla after intercepting the Iraqi tug Jumariya.
