Studio portrait of 1999 Private (Pte) John William Chapman, 30th Battalion, originally of Kent, England. Pte Chapman immigrated to Australia at the age of 15, and enlisted on 9 August 1915 in Mannus, NSW. He died of illness at Fargo Military Hospital, Salisbury Plain, on 22 June 1918, aged 22.
