Australian Army issue overall dress : Sergeant M Grace, Australian Womens Army Service

Australian Women’s Army Service khaki summerweight cotton overall dress with brown bakelite buttons at the cuffs. There are also two belts, one with a buckle fastening and the other with a button and press studs. Written in ink on both belts is ‘NF392287. M.GRACE.’ A frayed white maker’s label reads ‘V437 MADE IN AUSTRALIA SIZE 1943’.

Worn by NF392287 Sergeant May Grace (later Goudie) during her service in the Australian Women’s Army Service. Grace was born on 9 April 1917 in North Sydney, New South Wales and enlisted on 13 April 1942 at Chatswood. She completed her initial training at Killara in Sydney and was then stationed at Victoria Barracks and Bathurst, before being discharged on 10 October 1946.
