Broad brimmed DPDU bush hat : 4 Battalion (Commando), Royal Australian Regiment
Description
Broad brimmed bush hat in Disruptive Pattern Desert Uniform (DPDU - Iraq pattern).
History / Summary
This type of bush hat was not as popular with the troops in Iraq as the short brimmed bush hat. When the hat is wet or used heavily, the brim drops down obscuring both vision and hearing. Disruptive Pattern Desert Uniform (DPDU) camouflage was specifically designed and made for the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and made it's operational debut during "Operation Slipper" in Afghanistan in October 2001. There has been at least two versions of the camouflage, each version having a different background shade of either yellow or pink. This hat was the type worn by members of 4 Battalion Royal Australian Regiment in 2003, during the Iraq War.
