DPDU bush hat : 4 Battalion (Commando), Royal Australian Regiment
Bush hat in Disruptive Pattern Desert Uniform (DPDU - Iraq pattern). The hat has been field modified by the addition of a green parachute cord chinstrap. Similar cord has also been interwoven through the camouflage loops on the crown.
Modified DPDU bush hat as worn by members of 4 Battalion Royal Australian Regiment during the 2003 Iraq War. Contemporary Australian Army soldiers often modify their issued hats for personal comfort and identity. The use of parachute cord is popular as it is easy to obtain, strong and is of a subdued camouflage green colour. DPDU camouflage was specifically designed and made for the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and made its operational debut during 'Operation Slipper' in Afghanistan in October 2001. There has been at least two versions of the camouflage, each version having a different background shade of either yellow or pink.
