12 Light Horse Regiment Association badge : Mr J J Munroe
Brass and enamel membership badge of the 12 Light Horse Regiment Association. In the centre of the badge is a gold coloured figure with a spear and shield on a blue and orange background. The image is surrounded by two black scrolls inscribed with the words '12th L.H. DEO REGI PATRIAE'. The badge is secured with a vertical back pin and the reverse is impressed with the name and location of the maker.
This badge is associated with Driver (Dvr) 7133 John Joseph Monroe, who served with the 12 Light Horse Regiment in the Middle East from March 1916 until the end of the war. This association was started by veterans of the Regiment upon their return to Australia. A butcher by trade, Monroe was originally attached to 13 Australian Army Service Corps and was seconded to the Light Horse soon after enlisting.
