Studio portrait of VX14985 Staff Sergeant (S Sgt) William Illingworth Taylor, 1st Australian Press Unit (previously 2/21st Australian Infantry Brigade), smoking a pipe. A commercial artist of Newmarket, Vic, he enlisted on 23 May 1940 and sailed with the 7th Division to the Middle East. He served with the 21st Australian Infantry Brigade for a year before he was promoted to Lieutenant (Lt) and appointed Staff Artist and Administration Officer with the 1st Australian Army Press Unit at Morotai, Netherlands East Indies, where he served until his discharge on 13 November 1945.
