Description

Brown lightweight canvas kitbag, with 8 brass eyelets around the opening, and an internal flap. The flap was used to secure the contents when the bag was drawn shut. At the base is a canvas loop used to secure the kitbag's tie rope. The round base is reinforced with a second layer of canvas, and is stenciled in white letters and over-written in black with '94763'. Also marked on the base are three vertical lines. The two outer lines are white and the central one is lime green. Stenciled in white letters on the side of the bag is, '2/400615 RALSTON G C C COY'. The letters 'C COY' have been over-written in black ink. Written in dark ink on the same side is the number, '7' and adjacent to which is a black smudge. Painted in dark ink on the other side of the bag is, '1.R.A.R.'. There are three small holes in the side and one larger hole in the bottom of the kitbag.

History / Summary

This kitbag was used by Lance Corporal G C Ralston MM. Gavin Carmichael 'Toby' Ralston was born at Seaham, via Maitland, NSW on 4 April 1928. He was a K Force volunteer and served with 1 Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment, in Korea between 7 April 1952 and 24 March 1953. He was awarded the Military Medal for his actions in more than two dozen patrols into No-Man's-Land during the battalion's tour, including a patrol in September 1952 that attempted to recover Captain Phillip Greville and his men, who had been captured by the enemy.
