Studio portrait of 6955 Private (Pte) Reginald Percy Bartram, 8th Battalion, a compositor of Moreland, Vic. Pte Reginald Bartram enlisted on 25 August 1916 at Richmond, Vic, and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Horotata with the 23rd Reinforcements on 23 November 1916. He was promoted to Acting Corporal at AIF Headquarters, London on 4 March 1917. On 9 April 1917 he qualified first in the class at 8th Rifle Course, School of Musketry. In June 1917 he was taken on strength of 37th Battalion in France and appointed lance corporal. In January 1917, Corporal (Cpl) Reginald Bartram requested that his sister be appointed as next of kin as his wife had been a resident of Mont Park Asylum for seven years. Prior to leaving for overseas Cpl Bartram had placed his two sons in the Melbourne Orphan Asylum. He was killed in action in Belgium on 4 October 1917 aged 36 years. Cpl Reginald Bartram was the eldest of four brothers who served in the First World War. The other brothers were 2126 Private (Pte) Cyril George Bartram, returned to Australia 27 July 1917 due to illness; 2682 Sergeant Raymond Everard Bartram, killed 7 June 1917 aged 23 years; 2304 Pte Arnold Roy Bartram, killed 13 May 1917 aged 21 years.
