Wooden cross erected at Mouquet Farm: 49th Battalion, AIF
Description
Large wooden cross manufactured of timber which was originally whitewashed or white painted, but which is now grey in colour. The words 'ERECTED TO THE MEMORY OF OFFICERS N.C.O.S & MEN 49TH BN A.I.F. Who fell in the taking of "Mouquet Farm" Sept 3rd 1916 R.I.P.' are painted in black on the cross.
History / Summary
The survivors of the 49th Australian Infantry Battalion erected this cross in memory of men of the battalion who died in fighting around Mouquet Farm, part of the battle of the Somme in 1916.
