Studio portrait of 2238 Trooper Douglas Gordon Williams, 15th Reinforcements, 3rd Light Horse Regiment, of St Peters, SA. A telephone linesman prior to enlistment, he embarked on 16 March 1916 aboard HMAT Anchises (A68). He later transferred to the 13th Field Artillery Brigade. He was awarded the Military Medal (MM) on 19 November 1917 for an action on 29 October when he inspired his comrades to continue through a heavy barrage and ensure the delivery of ammunition to the front.
