Studio portrait of 3345 (later 3345A) Trooper (Tpr) James Monaghan Garrett, 1st, 3rd and 4th Battalions Camel Corps, of Tingha Crossing, NSW. A drover prior to enlisting in March 1917, Tpr Garrett, aged 18, embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Kyarra (A55) on 3 September 1917. He was wounded in action in the Middle East in March 1918. On 27 July 1918 he was transferred to the 1st Light Horse Regiment. Tpr Garrett returned to Australia in May 1919. He served during the Second World War (service number Q42358) with the 49th Battalion achieving the rank of Warrant Officer Class 2. WO2 Garret died, aged 43, on 9 December 1942 of wounds received in action at Bougainville.
