Description
A damaged gun barrel, (left), from a Centurion Mk V/1 tank, (ARN 169017), of C Squadron, 1 Armoured Regiment. The tank was engaging an enemy bunker system during Operation Hermit Park in the north eastern sector of Phuoc Tuy Province on 25 June 1971, when the muzzle of the barrel was struck by a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG). The bore was obstructed by the strike but it was successfully cleared when the tank commander, 37709 Sergeant Stan Hanuszewicz, fired an armour piercing capped ballistic capped (APCBC) round down the damaged barrel and into an enemy bunker. The tank continued to engage the enemy after the incident.
