Gard, Thomas James Bastian (Private; b.1896 - d.1916)
Collection relating to the First World War service of 5100 Thomas James Bastian Gard, 48th Australian Infantry Battalion, AIF. Collection consists of one wallet belonging to Private Gard, of which its contents include a letter written by Edna Woods and dated 1 June 1916, a telegram, a diary with brief entries, newspaper clippings, the written description for Gard on the Villers Bretonneux Memorial and seven Cadbury Chocolate cards. Collection also consists of a copy of a photo of Edna Woods (the original was kept in the wallet by Gard as they were sweethearts, and is held in the Memorial's collections at P08830.002), an original handwritten letter written by Gard to his sister and dated 18 July 1916, and a handwritten transcript of the letter. Gard was killed in action (KIA) in France on 6 August 1916, aged 20 years old.
