Informal portrait of 6274 Private (Pte) Alfred Argent, 21st Battalion, of Corinella, Vic. A farmer prior to enlisting on 25 October 1916, Pte Argent embarked with the 18th Reinforcements from Melbourne on board HMAT Hororata (A20) on 23 November 1916. He arrived in France for service on the Western Front on 31 August 1917. On 9 October 1917, Pte Argent was wounded in action at Passchendaele, Ypres, Belgium by multiple gun shot wounds. He died the next day. Pte Argent was 27 years of age.
