Studio portrait of NX12223 Captain (Capt) Paul Deschamps. Captain Deschamps served with the 2/13th Battalion and was awarded the Military Cross for his work during the Finschhafen campaign. He lead his company in the first assault wave at Scarlet Beach and later inflicted heavy casualties against a heavily defended position in an action near Finschhafen. He also led his men in an action near Sattelberg Road and his leadership was a contributing factor in the success of his battalion at Finschhafen. He had earlier served in the Middle East, and later served for several months in India.
