Mothers and Widows badge : Mrs B M Kendall
Mothers and Widows badge with impressed serial number on reverse upper bar '26323'. Badge takes the form of a black machine embroidered ribbon, showing, in yellow, white and red, sprigs of wattle, a 'Rising Sun' badge and 'FOR AUSTRALIA'. The ribbon is suspended between two white metal bars, the upper one with a brooch fitting and the lower one with two gold stars, indicating two relatives killed.
Issued to Mrs Bridget Mary Kendall, the mother of 388 Private Edward Denis Kendall and 365 Corporal Hassell Marsden Harding Kendall.
Edward enlisted in 20 Battalion on 8 March 1915 and served on Gallipoli. He died of pneumonia in Egypt on 19 January 1916, aged 34 and is buried in Alexandria (Chatby) Military and War Memorial Cemetery.
Hassell enlisted in 31 Battalion on 21 July 1915 and served in France where he was killed in action on 19 July 1916, aged 21. He is buried in Fromelles (Pheasant Wood) Military Cemetery, France
