Sword belt : Sir Ronald Munro Ferguson, Governor General of Australia
Description
Silver bullion waist belt with red leather backing. Small red leather guard where the shorter strap is joined to the waist belt. Ornate leaf design across the belt. The buckle has the monogram 'GRJ' and crown above it. Beneath the monogram is 'DIEU-ET MON DROIT' on a scroll. Oak leaves flair out on either side of the monogram.
History / Summary
This sword belt was part of the formal dress worn by Sir Ronald Munro Ferguson who was Australia's Governor General from 18 May 1914 to 6 October 1920. He became Viscount Novar on his return to Great Britain in 1920 and was appointed a knight of the Thistle in 1926.
