Buckle for sword belt: Sir Ronald Munro Ferguson, Governor General of Australia
Embellished silver thread pattern covered leather belt with embellished metal buckle and clasps. Attached to short strap REL/01108.002. Ornate metal single prong buckle. Oblong in portrait direction. The buckle has a slide on the reverse holding a leather red Morrocan loop strap. The leather strap passes through the slide and folds onto itself where it has been stitched into place. Inside this enclosure is fixed a dome headed metal stud. The stud fixes through a button hole at the end of the strap forming a loop. The single prong fits through a single metal eyelet on the belt holding it in place.
This buckle for a sword belt was part of the formal dress worn by Sir Ronald Munro Ferguson who was Australia's Governor General from 18 May 1914 to 6 October 1920. He became Viscount Novar on his return to Great Britain in 1920 and was appointed a knight of the Thistle in 1926.
