Pair of epaulettes : Sir Ronald Munro Ferguson, Governor General of Australia
Pair of plaited silver wire cord shoulder boards. They are decorated with the English rose, Scottish thistle, and Irish shamrock below the Imperial crown. They are backed with dark blue wool and have a hinged attachment plate designed to slide through loops sewn to the shoulders of the frock coat. The hinged plates are marked left and right.
This pair of epaulettes were worn by Sir Ronald Munro Ferguson who was Australia's Governor General from 18 May 1914 to 6 October 1920. He became Viscount Novar on his return to Great Britain in 1920 and was appointed a knight of the Thistle in 1926.
The silver epaulettes include United Kingdom heraldry featuring the English rose, the Irish shamrock and the Scottish thistle surmounted by the Imperial Crown. They would have been worn as part of Sir Ronald Munro Ferguson's formal dress.
