General MacArthur visits 9th Division
Description
On 5 July 1943 American General Douglas MacArthur, Commander Allied forces SWPA, arrived Mareeba Airfield, Queensland, in a Boeing B-17. He was greeted by NX8 Lieutenant-General Sir Leslie J Morshead and other officers. MacArthur was transported by staff car to the 9th Aust. Division area where he inspected a guard of honour and then toured area inspecting various units of the 9th Australian Division. He was accompanied on his tour by Lieutenant-General Morshead, Major-General Wooten and other staff officers.
