"Father" [Sir Richard Williams] of RAAF revisits Point Cook
Description
Air Marshal Sir Richard Williams revisits Point Cook to "star" in a segment of a film being produced by the Commomwealth Film Unit, to mark the 50th anniversary of the RAAF which falls in 1971. Just as the retired Air Marshal is regarded as the "father" of military flying in Australia, Point Cook is known as the home of the Air Force. It was here on 8 September 1914 that Sir Richard had the honour of being the first man to begin flying training. This item shows Sir Richard having a nostalgic look at a fimsy Box Kite aircraft similar to that in which he soloed on 2 Sep 1914.
