Description
Montbrehain was captured by Australian troops, the attack was launched in the early morning by the 2nd Division in cooperation with a company of tanks of the 5th British Tank Brigade, the 6th Infantry Brigade operating against the village. The capture of the position having completed the decisive break through of the Hindenburg Line, the Australian Infantry then passed into Army Reserve to rest and refit on 6 October. It was on this same day that the German government made its final offer of peace which led to the granting of the Armistice.
