BELLICOURT, FRANCE. C. SEPTEMBER 1918. ENTRANCE TO THE LONG TUNNEL THROUGH WHICH PASSED ONE STRETCH OF THE ST QUENTIN CANAL. THIS WAS A STRONGLY FORTIFIED SECTION OF THE HINDENBURG LINE AS HERE IT WAS IN OPEN COUNTRY WHILE ELSEWHERE IT LAY BEHIND THE OPEN CANAL CUTTING WHOSE EMBANKMENTS PROVIDED EXTRA PROTECTION AGAINST ATTACKERS.
