Description

Letters relating to the First World War service of 1379 Sergeant George Alexander Hugh Murray, 14th Infantry Battalion. In this series of letters, Murray details life at the recruitment and training camp at Broadmeadows before the embarkation of 14th Battalion in December 1914. He provides details of troop movements, training and practice exercises, other battalions of 4 Brigade. Murray also details the death of several soldiers in training and mentions a deadly riot in Melbourne on 19 December 1914. This series of letters concludes with descriptions of life on board the troopship SS Berrima.
