Letters relating to the First World War service of 30239 Driver Gordon Cecil Buckingham Champion, 1st Divisional Ammunition Column. These letters from Champion to his sweetheart Dorothea “Dorrie” Adams cover: the arrival and disembarkation in Devonport in January 1917; life at the training camp at Larkhill; a German prisoners of war camp; the cold weather, including the death and burial of soldiers who succumbed to the cold; his visit to Bournemouth; tending horses; sightseeing in Amesbury; leave to London; German raids on London and Folkestone; deployment to France with the 2nd Section of the 1st Divisional Ammunition Column; the weather conditions and fighting on the Western Front; his friend John “Jack” Ferris Crowhurst; Christmas Day in 1917. Champion would later marry Adams after the war in 1922. This file contains:
