In some of these letters, Birdwood addresses Hamilton as “General Johnny”. Birdwood has annotated the original cover with some of the subjects discussed in the letters including his appointment to command the Australian and New Zealand soldiers, the Suvla landing, the evacuation from Gallipoli, and the French withdrawal. There are also handwritten notes written by Birdwood about Gallipoli. The file itself was identified as Item 4 on Birdwood's original listing of files related to the Dardanelles campaign.
