Description
This file contains letters exchanged by Field Marshal Lord William Birdwood and Colonel Sir Maurice Pascal Alers Hankey between 18 July 1915 and 16 March 1916. Hankey was the Secretary to the Committee of Imperial Defence. The letters written by Birdwood are typed copies of the originals, with some of the subjects discussed including the situation at Gallipoli, the evacuation from Anzac/Suvla and Helles, new inventions and ideas for their use, and the re-organisation of the Anzacs in Egypt. The file itself was identified as Item 7 on Birdwood's original listing of files related to the Dardanelles campaign. This original list can be found in 3DRL/3376 11/15 File 1.
