This transcript was made of the first bound volume of Richards’ diaries and covers the period 26 August 1914 to 24 April 1915. As such the entries detail: his enlistment and embarkation from Australia; the journey to Egypt; the establishment of the 1st Australian Field Ambulance (1st AFA) at Mena; training and sightseeing in Egypt; the movement of the 1st AFA to the island of Lemnos; and preparations for the landings at Gallipoli. This transcript was made by the Australian War Memorial in 1935.
