Description

Original letter from King George V offering condolences on the death of Captain Cherry V.C., M.C., and regret at being unable to present the VC to Cherry before his death. The collection also contains a letter from General Birdwood to Mrs Cherry (mother) offering condolences and giving details of the action Captain Cherry was involved in on the day of his death. A newspaper article on Cherry and copies of extracts from the London Gazette for his V.C. and M.C. citations also form part of the collection.
