LUNGGA, GUADALCANAL, SOLOMON ISLANDS, 1943-10-14. THE QUONSET HUT THAT SERVED AS THE OFFICE FOR THE DEPUTY SUPERVISING INTELLIGENCE OFFICER (DSIO), NAVAL INTELLIGENCE DIVISION, RAN, AT HIS HEADQUARTERS CAMP. BEHIND IT ARE THREE NATIVE PIT-PIT HUTS MADE FROM THE WOOD AND LEAVES OF THE SAGO PALM. THE NEAREST OF THE THREE IS THE RADIO SHACK, WHILE THE TWO AT THE VERY BACK ARE OFFICERS' QUARTERS. THE DSIO'S HQ AT LUNGGA WAS THE COLLECTION AND RELAY POINT FOR OPERATIONAL INTELLIGENCE GATHERED BY THE NETWORK OF COASTWATCHERS THAT OPERATED IN THE SOLOMON ISLANDS.
