Description
Diary relating to the First World War service of Lieutenant Colonel Rupert Major Downes, 3rd Light Horse Field Ambulance. This diary written between 15 May and 25 September 1915 covers his landing at Gallipoli with Brigade Headquarters, 8th and 9th Light Horse, 3rd Signal Troop, the Otago Mounted rifles and other returning soldiers; the armistice on the 24 of may to bury the dead; action of the field ambulance in the Anzac Area of Gallipoli; his order to move to Mudros and the subsequent return weeks later during the August offensive and the medial conditions he found at Anzac cove.
