Wallet 1 of 1 - Diary relating to the First World War Service of 3506 Private David James Stone, 49th Australian Infantry Battalion. This file contains one handwritten diary consisting of 12 pages, rewritten while Pte Stone was in hospital recovering from surgery to remove shrapnel after being wounded. In this diary, Pte Stone provides a detailed record of his activities from 1 January 1916 to 25 October 1917; this includes his service in Egypt and his later work as a stretcher bearer in France, as well as conditions experienced on the Front such as trench foot. A short letter from Pte Stone to his mother regarding the distribution of his diary is also included in this collection.
