Diary of Mervyn Ernest Hazen, 1917
Diary relating to the First World War Service of 5341 Private Mervyn Ernest Hazen, 21st Australian Infantry Battalion.
This file consists of one bound photocopy of a pocket diary kept by Pte Hazen from 1 January 1917 to 13 March 1917 whilst on active service in France. In this diary, Pte Hazen provides a brief description of his daily activities including manning outposts, fatigue duty and laying of duckboards. He also describes the cold weather and muddy conditions in the trenches. A photograph of an unknown woman, a memorial card, and a copy of The Rising Sun publication of 15 August 1916 are also included in this collection.
